Flying in a paraglider is a feeling like no other. Imagine sitting in an armchair, hundreds of meters in the sky, feeling totally exposed yet completely secure. Watching deer run below, hawks flying beside you and hearing the rumble of the waterfalls as your pilot manoeuvres the glider within meters of the impressive Twin Falls.
Is it Difficult?
Launching and landing are made easy thanks to professionally trained pilots and modern equipment. A few gentle steps and you’ll be quickly flying. We land softly with a few steps or can slide gently on the harness if preferred.
We will discuss with you beforehand if you would like to experience a gentle scenic flight, or something more extreme. You will be able to talk to your pilot through the entire flight.
Often we take passengers with a fear of heights. Our team works very hard to ensure you feel safe, and we often hear how comforting and fantastic the flying experience is, and how everyone would love to do it again!
We fly from Pub Corner, on the road going up to Treble Cone ski field. Our launch is 800m above the valley and is the highest summertime tandem flight in New Zealand.
You will experience beautiful views of Lake Wanaka, Roys Peak, and the Matukituki Valley leading into Mt. Aspiring National Park.
This flying site is one of the most spectacular in New Zealand and is the home to the NZ Paragliding Nationals.
We have been operating since 1991, and consider safety to be of the utmost importance to successfully fly here. We are constantly monitoring local weather, and operate with a large safety margin, to ensure we are never flying close to the limit.
Wanaka Paragliding is certified with the Civil Aviation Authority as a 115 Operation and follows strict regulations to ensure the safety of our equipment, pilots and the entire operation at Treble Cone.
Cost and Getting There
Our standard tandem flight is $229. However, as Treble Cone has more reliable flying conditions early in the morning, we offer a $20 discount for our first flight of the day, at $209.
Getting to Treble Cone is an easy 20-minute drive from Wanaka. If you don’t have transport, we offer a shuttle service for an extra $40.
We do accept bookings and can take payment on-site, however, Online Bookings are preferred. Refunds are made in full if we are unable to fly due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
