The Experience

Flying in a paraglider is a feeling like no other. Imagine sitting in an armchair, hundreds of meters in the sky, feeling totally immersed yet completely secure. Watching deer run on the mountainside below and hawks flying beside you. As your pilot manoeuvres the glider within meters of the majestic Twin WaterFalls.

Excitement if You Want it.

Launching and landing are made easy by our professional pilots and modern equipment. A few gentle steps and you’ll be quickly flying. We land softly with a few steps or we can slide in gently on the harness too.

We will discuss with you beforehand if you want a gentle scenic flight, or something a bit more extreme. You will be able to talk with your pilot throughout the entire flight.

Often, we take passengers with a fear of heights. Our team works very hard to ensure you always feel safe and we frequently hear how comforting the paragliding flying experience is, and how much someone would love to repeat it.

Our Mountain

We fly from Pub Corner 1100 meters above sea level. On the road going up to Treble Cone Ski Field. Our launch is 800m above the valley and is the highest summertime tandem flight in New Zealand.

You will experience stunning views of Lake Wanaka, Roys Peak, and the Matukituki Valley leading into Mt. Aspiring National Park.

This flying site is rated the most spectacular in New Zealand and NZ is a pretty spectacular place!

Safety

We have been operating since 1990, and consider safety the most important thing. We are constantly monitoring local weather and operate with a large safety margin, to ensure we are never flying close to the limit.

NZ leads the world in adventure aviation. Wanaka Paragliding is fully certified with the Civil Aviation Authority as a 115 Operation. Essentially we operate like a very small airline following strict regulations and under a stringent auditing process to ensure the safety of our customers and crew at Treble Cone.

Cost and Getting There

Our tandem flight is $249 for the flight only or with in-flight photos and videos for $319. A booking Fee and GST tax bring these totals to $262 and $335 respectively. Treble Cone often has more reliable flying conditions in the morning, so we recommend you book earlier if possible. Call us if you have a question.

Getting out to Treble Cone is an easy 20-minute drive from Wanaka.

If you don’t have transport, we suggest you take the earliest flight option and ride out early with us. Contact us for more information on this option.
